Fine gardening is a service that has been missing from southern California.

Fine Gardening Service

Each homeowner we’ve helped out with design has asked me if I know of a “good” gardener, that won’t chop down their prized plant or over-prune the shrubs.

It’s such a common problem that I want to bring back the fine gardening service with passionate gardeners who can pass on their knowledge to homeowners for a better experience. We are now taking on a few more quarterly maintenance clients to improve the health and beauty of our gardens.

How Fine Gardening is Different

(Hint: We don’t Mow & Blow)

Horticultural knowledge

We are unabashed plant nerds. Years of education in horticulture, botany, and tree healthcare set us apart from the crowd. We can identify pests and diseases before they spread and recommend the right treatment.

Knowledge of the life cycles of each plant and the best time to prune, keeps a garden looking it’s best in each season. For example, fall-blooming grasses have the most beautiful flowers, yet many are shaved to the ground in the fall.

A natural approach

It all begins with soil health. We start from the ground up adding soil amendments, fertilizers and compost at the correct time for the type of plants.

We prefer to ‘leave the leaves’ and not blow away the topsoil. The plants own leaves are a nutritious mulch. Adding additional mulch on top instead of blowing the leaves away leads to healthier gardens and less weeds, while also saving money and water.

We hand prune anything we can that is not already hedged and will try to repair over-hedged plants to return a natural look to the garden.

A low-maintenance garden is the goal

Quarterly maintenance is better for the environment, and ultimately the budget. Many landscapes in the area have plants that want to grow way too large for the small space they’re in, therefore requiring constant cutting back.

With our eye for design and plant knowledge we can help reccomend replacements for high-maintenance plants. Our design philosophy is to use drought-tolerant and appropriately sized easy-care plants. This ensures less environmental impact, and saves money watering and trimming inappropriate plants.
